Kevin Keegan RIP
I had this strip when I was ten. Because of Keegan.
Heroes Go. One by One.
This was is tough.
I don’t usually write much about football or sport but, Kevin Keegan. Fuck! He’s gone. My childhood hero.
I grew up in the 70’s and started watching football in 1976 and Liverpool was my team. Keegan was the star. They won the League. They won the European Cup (I watched it). And then he went off to Germany. Heartbreak.
I watched him on Superstars fall off the bike. I watched him at the 1982 World Cup coming on near the end and nearly winning it for England. I saw him once at Maine Rd when he played for Southampton.
No matter who you supported, there was always love for King Kev. Football fans across England and the world mourn his death tonight.
And me?
A great footballer.
A proud Northerner.
A great Englishman.
A decent guy.
I mourn the death of one of my childhood heroes. He was on a poster on my bedroom wall when I was young.
Kevin Keegan. King Kev. Mighty Mouse. RIP. My boyhood hero.
